Methods & tools
The thinking behind how we work, and the tools we reach for.
You are the expert of your life
You already hold the answers. What gets in the way is the noise, the old patterns, and the energy you don't realize you're operating from. Our job is to bring the questions and the structure that help you find your own answers.
This is what makes coaching different from therapy, mentoring, or consulting. A therapist helps you heal the past. A mentor or consultant shares their own experience and tells you what worked for them or what you should do. A coach brings you mind-shifting questions that help you do a work of consciousness and access your own answers to your goals in life.
You bring the content. We bring the process.
The 7 levels of energy
At the center of our practice is Core Energy Coaching™, the methodology we trained in through iPEC (the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching). The foundational idea is simple, and it changes everything once you see it: your thoughts create your emotions, your emotions drive your actions, and your actions produce your results. So if you want different results, you don't start by forcing new actions. You start by shifting the energy underneath them.
Every one of us moves through 7 distinct levels of energy. None of them is "wrong" and each has its advantages and disadvantages, but most of us get stuck cycling through the same one or two levels without realizing it. Coaching builds your awareness of where you're operating from, moment to moment, so you can consciously choose the energy that serves what you want.
You'll notice levels 1 and 2 are largely catabolic, and rarely bring about the results you're after. But there's no "good" or "bad" energy here. Each level can be used consciously to reach a specific goal. Anger, for instance, can be exactly the fuel a moment calls for. And it's completely normal to move up and down this spectrum throughout a single day. None of us live at one level all the time.
What coaching gives you is the awareness to notice, in real time, which level you're standing in, and the choice to move to a different one when it no longer serves you. That single shift is often the whole breakthrough.
| Level | What it sounds like |
|---|---|
| 1 · VictimLack of choice, fear | "I'm so upset. It's like I don't even exist. They just ignore me." |
| 2 · ConflictAnger, combativeness | "I'm gonna tell them off. I'm so MAD!" |
| 3 · ResponsibilityRationalizing, "fine" | "It's okay. They've been here a long time and are on my team. I guess I can deal with it." |
| 4 · ConcernCare, compassion, service | "I really want the best for them and for the company. I'm happy to support them." |
| 5 · ReconciliationWin-win, no right or wrong | "Where's the opportunity here? How can we both win?" |
| 6 · SynthesisIntuition, creative genius | "We're all connected, and everything here has value and purpose." |
| 7 · Non-judgmentOneness, complete passion | "I feel complete passion and joy in this, and in all situations." |
Not a personality test
You may have taken MBTI, DISC, or a color-based assessment before. They can be useful for a moment of insight, but they work by sorting you into a fixed type: a set of four letters, a color, a category you then carry around as an explanation of who you are.
Core Energy Coaching starts from a different question. Instead of asking what type you are, it asks what energy you're running on right now, in this situation, and whether that energy is taking you where you want to go. Nobody is "a Level 3." You might be operating from Level 3 in this meeting, about this decision, because of a belief that's quietly running the show. And that can change.
| A personality test | Core Energy Coaching |
|---|---|
| Tells you who you are | Asks who you're becoming |
| Sorts you into a fixed type | Meets you in the moment: your energy today, not a label for life |
| A noun: "I am an INFJ" / "I'm a Blue" | A verb: "What energy am I running on, and is it serving me?" |
| Can become an explanation for staying the same | Is built around conscious choice and change |
| A snapshot, taken once | A practice, revisited as often as you need it |
Personality tests tell you who you are. Core Energy Coaching asks who you're becoming, and gives you the tools to choose the energy that gets you there.
A personality test can quietly become a reason to stay the same. Core Energy Coaching does the opposite. It treats you as someone with real potential, able to choose how you show up from one moment to the next.
A few examples of the tools we use
If you're curious about the type of tools professional coaches use, here are a few examples. They're just that, examples, because so many different tools exist, and which ones we use together depends on your goals and what you'd like to achieve.
The Wheel of Life
A clear picture of where you stand, in ten minutes.
We map your life across ten key areas (career, health, relationships, finances, personal growth, and more) and score where each one stands today, not where you think it should be. The picture that emerges is often the first honest look someone has taken at their whole life in years. It doesn't just show you what's off. It shows you exactly where to focus first, so our time together goes straight to what matters, so you can get closer to the life you fully want to live.
The GAIL energy blocks
Naming the inner voice that's been quietly running the show.
Behind most of what stops us is an invisible block. We work with four of them: Gremlins (the inner critic telling you you're not enough), Assumptions (old patterns you've projected onto the future), Interpretations (the story you've built around what happened), and Limiting Beliefs (the quiet rules you've never questioned). Once a block has a name, it loses a good deal of its power, and we can work with it directly instead of around it.
AIM SMART goal-setting
Turning a vague hope into something you can act on this week.
"I want more balance" or "I want to lead better" feel true, but they're hard to act on. This tool starts by grounding the goal in your deeper intention, your AIM, so it's tied to what actually matters to you, then shapes it into something Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. It's the bridge between insight and follow-through, the part that turns a good conversation into real, visible movement.
A few questions to sit with
If any of this feels a little too close to home, that's a good sign. That usually means it's worth a conversation.
- Which energy level (of the 7 above) do you find yourself returning to most often, and what is it costing you?
- If you mapped your life honestly today, which area makes you want to change things to get closer to what you really want?
- What's one belief about yourself you've never questioned?
You don't need to have the answers before we start. That's the work we do together.
